STUDENT TAKE HOME MATERIALS KIT # 1

Book Mark Bags

SPATIAL REASONING BOOKMARK BAG

  1. Take string and tools (glue stick, stickers, baubles, colored pencil, and marker) out leaving only the shapes in the bag.
  2. Have your student reach his/her hand into the bag with eyes closed or averted.
  3. Pull out one shape and feel the shape!
  4. Name the shape and describe its qualities (small, big, angles, edges).

VARIATIONS: Leave tools and other items in as students explore and determine the shapes and items.

BIG BAG OF HOME GOODIES: Using a larger bag, place household items (toys, smooth utensils, safe tools) into the bag, and have your student explore each item and define the qualities of the items as they determine which household belonging they are discovering!

BOOKMARK CREATION DIRECTIONS

EXPLORING WITH ELEMENTS OF ART: LINE, SHAPE, COLOR, and SPACE

  1. Arrange the shapes in the bag to determine how you will use each in your collage.
  2. Alter the shapes with cutting or tearing methods as you wish. Rearrange to create your final design.
  3. Stick pieces together and glue items as needed to complete your creation.
  4. Place the hole punch reinforcer stickers around the hole your string will thread through.
  5. Tie a knot into the thread pieces and leave as a tassel!
  6. How can you teach a family member or friend the art of collage?
